How to play

No account, no pressure. Tap a game and you're playing in seconds.

The one idea behind six of the games

Assets = Liabilities + Equity

What the business owns = what it owes + the owner's stake

  • Assets — things the business owns or is owed: cash, equipment, stock, money customers still owe it.
  • Liabilities — what the business owes others: bank loans, unpaid supplier bills.
  • Equity — the owner's residual interest: what would be left if every debt were paid. It is not a separate pile of cash.

Controls

  • Drag items where dragging feels natural — or simply tap an item, then tap its destination.
  • Every control is a real button, so keyboard and screen-reader users can play too.
  • Hint, Restart, Pause and Library are always in the top bar.

Stars and progress

Three stars for getting a level right first go, two after one slip, one when you keep going and get there. Hints never cost you stars — understanding is the point. Progress saves automatically in this browser and you can wipe it from My Progress.

Comfort settings

Sound is optional and off-switchable mid-game. Calm motion removes floating and celebration movement; if your device already asks for reduced motion, PlayMoney follows it automatically. Numbers never sit on moving artwork.

Money rules we stick to

  • Borrowing money is not revenue — it's a liability.
  • Money the owner puts in is not revenue — it's equity.
  • Repaying loan principal is not an expense — it shrinks cash and the liability.
  • Owner drawings reduce equity; they are not an operating expense.
  • Buying equipment swaps one asset for another — it isn't automatically an expense.
  • Collecting money a customer already owed doesn't create revenue a second time.
  • Revenue increases equity through profit; expenses reduce it.
  • A balanced equation can still hide a classification mistake.

Currency and simplifications

All amounts are New Zealand dollars. Scenarios exclude GST and income tax, and say so wherever it matters, so no example misleads you. Interest rates are hypothetical and fixed for teaching.
